MATTHEW Jesus: King of the Jews and the Nations AUTHOR In his list of the twelve disciples’ names, Matthew referred to himself as a “tax collector” (Matt. 10:3), whereas Mark and Luke referred to him simply as Matthew (Mark 3:18; Luke 6:15). Matthew wrote that he was sitting at the tax collector’s booth when Jesus called him to follow Him (Matt. 9:9). Matthew held a feast “in his own house” (Mark 2:19; Luke 5:29), whereas Matthew wrote that it was “in the house” (Matt. 9:10, literal translation).
